How to Join the Dog Jogs Team: What to Expect from Our Hiring Process

Behind the Scenes, Helpful Tips

Dog Jogs- Edmonton dog walker Cat Sitter

At Dog Jogs, we take pride in offering exceptional care for pets. We’re not just looking for anyone to join our team – we’re looking for passionate individuals who truly understand the work and responsibility that comes with being a professional dog walker (or dog jogger as we call them1). If you’re thinking about applying, here’s an overview of what to expect during our hiring process and how to put your best foot (or paw!) forward.

Step 1: Read the Job Description (All of It!)

Before you even begin the application, take a moment to carefully read through the entire job description. We’ve laid out everything you need to know, including the job requirements and expectations. A few questions to ask yourself:

  • Does your availability match what we need?
  • Are you physically able to jog and walk as much as we require?
  • Do you have knowledge of dog behavior, especially when it comes to handling reactivity?

These are essential parts of the job, so make sure you’re fully prepared for what’s involved before moving to the next step.

Step 2: Complete the Application

This one may sound obvious, but you’d be surprised how often candidates skip over parts of an application. At Dog Jogs, attention to detail is key, and we need to see that from the very start. Take your time to fill out the entire application. If any sections are incomplete, we won’t be able to move you forward in the process.

Step 3: Follow-Up Questions

If your application stands out, you’ll be sent some follow-up questions. This is our opportunity to get to know you a bit better and understand your experience, qualifications, and passion for working with dogs. Answer thoughtfully – it’s your chance to show why you’re the perfect fit!

Step 4: Video Submission

Next, we’ll ask you to submit a brief video, no longer than one minute. But here’s the twist – we want you to answer the question: “Why wouldn’t we hire you?” It’s a fun and insightful way for us to see how you think on your feet. Don’t overthink it, just be yourself!

Step 5: The Interview

If we like what we see in your video, you’ll move on to the interview stage. This is where we get to talk with you one-on-one and discuss your experience, your expectations, and how well you think you’d fit into our team. Come prepared with questions for us too – we want to make sure this job is the right fit for you, just as much as it is for us.

Step 6: The Working Interview

If the Interview goes well, now comes the fun part: the working interview. You’ll spend some time with one of our head joggers to get a real feel for the job. This is the best way to understand the challenges and rewards of being a professional dog jogger. Spoiler alert: it’s not just a stroll in the park! You’ll see firsthand the physical demands, the attention to detail, and the strong communication skills needed to succeed.

We believe that this step is important not just for us but for you too – it helps both parties make sure that the role is a good fit.

Step 7: Job Offer (or Not)

After your working interview, we’ll assess whether we think you’re the right match for Dog Jogs. If we feel you’ll thrive with us, we’ll extend a job offer and welcome you to the team. If not, don’t be discouraged – sometimes, it’s just not the right time or fit. We’re always open to reconnecting in the future if circumstances change!

If you’re passionate about animals and eager to make a difference in the lives of dogs and their owners, we encourage you to take the plunge and apply! The road to becoming a Dog Jogger is a rewarding one, and we’re excited to see where it takes you.
