We know many paw-rents that just adore small dog breeds, and what’s not to love? They’re endearing little companions who are perfect for homes with limited space, and these small pooches often make up for their size with huge personalities. Here’s some quick info on 5 dog breeds that stay small fur-ever!

1. Pomeranian

Pomeranians are energetic and intelligent pups who generally grow to be 8-11 inches tall at the shoulders and 3-7 pounds. Their average lifespan is 12-16 years. These tiny pooches reach their full size when they are between seven and ten months old and are widely recognizable by their wonderfully fluffy coat and foxy face. Poms generally have bubbly and friendly personalities, they act a lot bigger than they are! Along with their high energy levels, Pomeranian pups also tend to be quite talkative and enjoy making lots of noise. Everyday exercise is a must for these small but mighty dogs, whether it be a walk around the neighbourhood or zoomies around the house/in the yard.

2. Chihuahua

Chihuahua’s are spunky little pups that are often regarded as the smallest dogs in the world! At their full size, Chihuahua’s tend to measure up to be 5-9 inches tall at the shoulders and weigh in at 2-6 pounds. These pups have a more dome-shaped head, prick ears and big eyes. Chihuahua’s lap up all the attention they can get and are very loyal companions. In a loving environment Chihuahua’s are generally very sweet, intelligent, and lovable. Just like their Pomeranian pals Chihuahua’s love to bark up a storm. Because of their size they can get their daily exercise by running around the house or taking a spritely walk around the block. Not only do these pups have tons of personality, but lots of life in them too; Chihuahua’s can live up to 20 years!

3. Yorkshire Terrier

These vivacious pups grow to be about 6-9 inches tall and weigh 5-7 pounds. Yorkshire terriers can be spotted by their straight, long, and smooth coat. They have energetic and somewhat bossy personalities, however they are generally quite friendly and happy. These little dogs like to be in charge! Yorkies require a great deal of attention and pretty constant affection, and so they are excellent lap dogs. They don’t need tons of room to exercise so playing in the house and short walks are perfect for Yorkies.

4. Papillion

Papillions, a.k.a “Paps” are happy and outgoing pups who stand at 8-12 inches tall and 4-10 pounds. They have a long silky coat and fluffy plumed tails. Paps don’t mat easily as they have no undercoat. These pups are usually social and not super chatty in comparison to their other small dog breed buddies. They live an average of 12-15 years and are commonly known to not have a strong “dog odour”.

5. Brussels Griffon

Brussels Griffon pups can be easily recognized by their square body and smushed nose (these pups are brachycephalic). These tiny munchkins grow to about 7-10 inches tall and 8-12 pounds when fully grown. Brussels Griffon’s are quite active pups and are known to be more demanding and stubborn. They take themselves quite seriously! Griffon’s require lots of attention and doting over, and they are usually quite social.

The only thing tiny about these pups is their size, all 5 of these little breeds pack lots of spunk and personality. You can have confidence that at Dog Jogs we are sensitive to each breed’s vibrant personality and have no trouble doting over all your pups, big and small.
